All soloists and ensembles should consider the opportunity to sing or play as a calling just as the musicians in the Old Testament were called people. We must always remember that our purpose is to usher others into manifest presence of God through music. Nothing should be done that takes the focus off of Christ and puts it in another place. Approach the position of singing or playing for a worship service with much humility and with a spiritually prepared heart.
It should be the desire of each soloist and ensemble member to do his / her best for the sole purpose of honoring and glorifying the Lord and of leading others in a more meaningful worship experience. This requires several things: select music as far in advance as possible, practice with an accompanist well in advance, and attempt to memorize your music. Careful examination and memorization of the text allows the song to have a deeper meaning to the soloist / ensemble, as well as the congregation.
Vocalists, ensembles, as well as instrumentalists, should all be mindful of their appearance when on the platform or stage. Although our worship is presented to the Lord, it is also before the congregation as well. Modesty and appropriateness is expected. Please refrain from wearing blue jeans, t-shirts, shorts, strapless dresses or thin strapped tops and flip flops. Business casual dress, such as khaki's and a collared or polo shirt for guys; and ladies, a pant suit, skirt of modest length and top etc… would be appropriate. When in doubt, don't wear it, and choose something more suitable.
The Worship Pastor desires that all service music be appropriate and meaningful. Soloists and ensembles are responsible for working with the Worship Pastor in terms of song selection. Each soloist or ensemble will work with the Worship Pastor on a one to one basis before presenting your musical offering to the Lord.
