Worship And DIScipleship Pastor [Job Description]

Position Title: Worship and Discipleship Pastor

Supervisor: Senior Pastor.


Principal Function: To model, serve and lead the body of Christian worship, discipleship, and outreach through the music and religious educational ministries of the church.


Music leadership:

-Serve as a leader in the worship services, giving direction to the congregational singing, praise team vocalists, musicians, and audio/visual team.

-Plan Sunday morning service in consultation with the pastor.

-Utilize Planning Center software to organize the order of worship.

-Responsible for integrating Planning Center order of worship into ProPresenter software.

-Oversee song lyrics in ProPresenter prior to rehearsal. Ensure lyrics are scripturally accurate.

-Prepare for and conduct weekly rehearsals.

-Responsible for and shall maintain church musical instruments and audio equipment used for Sunday services.

-Prepare the stage and audio equipment for rehearsals and services.

-Supervise the work of paid music staff and volunteers.

-Schedule and oversee vocalists, instrumentalists, and audio/visual team.

-At minimum prepare and lead the adult choir for seasonal presentations.

-Communicate with ministerial staff, vocalists, musicians, audio/visual team, etc. regarding upcoming services and events via email, text, Planning Center.

-Coordinate the music program with the organizational calendar and emphasis of the church.

-Coordinate and approve of music for worship, funerals, and weddings.



Discipleship leadership:

-Commit to positive relationships and communication with the pastor and other ministry staff leaders.

-Commit to positive relationships with elders, deacons, church lay leaders and general church family.

-Develop a long-range vision.

-Organize, coordinate, implement, and evaluate total religious education and music ministry.

-Lead in planning and calendaring events and activities related to the educational ministry.

-Develop and facilitate the budget of the educational ministry.

-Mobilize resources needed for ministry.

-Lead in enlisting and equipping the staff for the educational ministry.

-Evaluate needs and opportunities for growth through starting new ministry units.

-Evaluate and recommend provisions for space needs for educational ministry.

-Develop and implement curriculum selection policies for Sunday School and discipleship ministries.

-Lead in assimilating new members through new member orientation and care-group ministries within Sunday School classes.

-Lead the church family to understand and support the educational ministries of the church.

-Perform all other ministerial and educational functions as requested by the senior pastor.

-Be involved in visitation and outreach.



Required education and skills:

-Bachelor’s degree in music or Seminary Degree in Music preferred but not required.

-Seminary degree in Theology, education or equivalent of 4 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

-Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, complaints and maintain strict confidentiality.

-Excellent listening skills



Qualifications:

-Leadership ability – able to work with vocalists and musicians.

-Stage presence – ability to engage and involve everyone in worship.

-Musically gifted and trained:

-Knowledge of music theory and ability to teach/train others.

-Ability to implement a wide range of genres and generations: “praise and worship”, contemporary arrangements of traditional hymns, etc.

-Ability to implement convergence worship (“blended” style): the coming together of historic and contemporary worship.

-An attitude and communication style that reflects understanding of servant leadership, with a teachable spirit.

Understanding the use of the newest technology in planning and presenting music as part of worship services (Planning Center, ProPresenter, etc.)

-Basic knowledge and understanding of audio equipment and its operation.

-Demonstrates a mature Christian faith and commitment to the Baptist Faith

-Hold firm to the trustworthy word, so that he may be able to give instruction in Sound Doctrine and rebuke those who contradict it. (Titus 1:9)

Evidence a mature and clear Christian walk characterized by Paul in 1 Timothy:3 and Titus 1. Personal wisdom and sufficiency are grounded in Christ with a life submitted to God’s authority in all things. Can effectively lead others in prayer. Gives regularly and generously to the work of the church. Readily applies scripture to personal and professional situations. Can articulate Baptist theological understandings on a range of issues in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
